LDL and HDL levels are just as important as you
blood pressure and blood sugar readings. Many people are surprised to learn that there are actually two kinds of cholesterol
, one being bad for your health and the other one good. To ensure
that you handle your cholesterol correctly, it is important to understand the difference between the kind of cholesterol your body
requires and the kind that can put your health at risk.
As
some of us might know, cholesterol is a natural substance that is found in everyone’s bloodstream and cells.
Our bodies use it to produce cell membranes as well as hormones in addition to performing a number of other necessary bodily functions. The problem
starts when the body begins to build up too much cholesterol. It
usually happens in one of two ways:

Firstly - the body naturally produces its own cholesterol in order to aid with the important body functions
that were mentioned above. The remainder of the cholesterol comes from the foods we ingest, mainly meats, fish, eggs, butter, cheese and milk. Vegetables and plant products don't produce cholesterol. Foods that contain trans-fats and saturated fats cause the body to produce even more cholesterol.
Cholesterol is much like a fatty substance and therefore can’t dissolve and must be transported to and fro the cells where it is needed by lipoproteins. Low-density lipoprotein is what is most commonly referred to as bad cholesterol. When your body contains too much LDL cholesterol, a tremendous strain is placed on your heart, making you more susceptible to heart attacks and strokes. High density lipoprotein, on the other hand, is naturally manufactured by the body and works in the body’s defense.

TODAY'S NEWS:
Cholesterol can be helpful and harmful, depending on how much you have in your body and what it’s doing. Given that there are both good and bad types of cholesterol, and that high cholesterol can have different causes in different people, it makes managing cholesterol levels a bit complicated. But with good information, you have the power to do something about your cholesterol.
A study has found that on average, green tea reduced total cholesterol compared to levels seen in those taking a placebo. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol fell slightly less than 2 per cent.
SCREENING children for high cholesterol risks encouraging drug treatment that may turn out to be ineffective or unsafe, Australian doctors have claimed, joining a backlash against a US recommendation for universal blood tests in children aged nine to 11.

If you don’t know by now what the
difference between LDL and HDL is, you owe it to your family, yourself
and for your health's sake to find out. Thousands of men and women
ignore the warning signs until it’s too late - don't make the same
mistake, now is the time to take control of your cholesterol and your life!
