The two kinds of diabetes are type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when the body does not produce any insulin. It occurs more often in children, teens and youth. Type 2 diabetes is typically diagnosed in adults. Type 2 diabetics do not produce insulin or their cells ignore the insulin in their body. Type 2 diabetes is the more common type of diabetes.

You can encourage healthy eating habits by eating with the diabetic individual and helping them to make wise shopping choices. Diabetics should be limiting their intake of fats and sugars and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats and fish.

Encourage the individual to exercise by joining them in their exercise program. You can walk, jog, swim or dance together.
