The two things pregnant women worry about the most is having a healthy baby and getting their figure back after the baby is born. Getting fit involves several areas that need to be concentrated on including diet, exercise, and healthy habits.

Your body has gone through a marathon of changes both during the pregnancy and during the birthing process. Now your body is changing back to its pre-pregnancy state. The process of changing back is what getting fit is all about after having a baby. The combination of diet, exercise and striving to break any bad habits are the steps necessary to take when you are on the road to fitness after having a baby.

Losing weight should be a natural and gradual process if you are to successfully keep it off and return to your pre-pregnancy weight. While trying to lose weight it is important to remember that your body needs to have adequate nourishment to function so do not cut back on any of the food groups that your body requires for healthy nutrition. You should be eating a variety of foods including breads, cereals, cheese, eggs, fish, fruits, lean meats, legumes, milk and milk products, nuts and seeds, pasta, poultry, and vegetables.

Exercise

Endurance training also improves your cardiovascular system as you lose weight. Flexibility training improves the extent of motion each joint in your body can move. Exercise

Losing weight and becoming fit is also about eating on a regular basis and drinking adequate amounts of water because you body needs water to function properly and when your body is functioning properly it can do things like lose weight.

Part of what women expect after the baby is born is to see that flat stomach again and many are surprised that it just doesn't happen as fast as they think it should. The stomach's muscles and the skin of the stomach need to be toned up because of all the distention that occurred during the pregnancy. Toning exercises are necessary in order to get that fit, flat stomach back. Make sure that your obstetrician has given the all clear before starting any toning exercises especially if you had a c-section delivery. Once you have the green light to start exercising your doctor may give you some exercises to help you get fit again. The doctor may give you some strengthening pelvic floor muscle exercises.
