There are two primary modes of taking care of disease. One is the combative or direct dealing, the other preventative. The trend of innovative medical research and practice in our wonderful colleges and endued research institutes is almost entirely along combative or direct dealing lines, while the private, profitable mD learns to operate progressively along preventive lines. The slogan of modern medical science is, "Stamp out the microbe and contain the disease." The usual routine is to hold off till acute diseases have wholly manifested, and then, whenever possible, to subdue them by administering drugs, surgical processes, and using morbid products of disease, like serums, antitoxins, vaccines, etc. The straight approach combats illness with illness, virus with virus, and germs with germs and poison with poison.
