Who Uses Osteopathy and Why Should I?
Osteopathy is a medical belief that the body can heal itself
given the flow of structural makeup, fluids, texture of tissues and
motion are in sync. When bodily systems are in sync the body can
heal itself. The normally functioning body can repair and heal
trauma, chronic disease, and acute health problems.
An osteopath is a doctor of osteopathy (DO) that practices
medicine differently from conventional doctors in that an osteopath
uses non-invasive healing treatment and non-drug methods to aid the
body by returning the body to normal functioning so it can heal and
repair itself. Those who heal this way specialize in Osteopathic
Manual Medicine (OMM by devoting themselves to years of training,
after they finished medical school.
Doctors of Osteopathy are as read as MDs and are fully licensed
physicians. Individuals who attend medical schools for osteopathy
receive an additional 300 to 500 hours of study of the
musculoskeletal system as opposed to the medical doctors academic
disciplines.
The function of the osteopath is to "set up" the body to be able
to heal itself. Osteopaths are trained to be able to palpate (feel
with their hands) the patient's "living anatomy" or structural
make-up and flow of fluids or motion of tissues in order to detect
physical issues with the human body. Sometimes the body just needs
proper re-positioning in order to regain the ability for normal
tissue function. The ability to do this re-positioning is called,
"Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM)". Osteopaths basically diagnose
and treat medical problems with their hands.
Individuals who may approach an osteopathic Doctor may be those
suffering from headaches, joint pain, traumatic injury, overuse
syndromes, neck or back pain, digestive disorders, neurological
syndromes, seizures, learning disorders, cerebral palsy, birth
trauma, delayed development, asthma, allergies, ear infections,
sore throats, frequent colds, sinusitis, and also bronchitis.
Patients come to osteopathic doctors to treat pediatric problems,
somatic pain, and systemic problems, issues connected to pregnancy,
respiratory illnesses and ear, nose and throat issues.
People all over the world are turning to osteopathy for help in
healing and repair of the human body. Many individuals prefer to
heal without the use of drugs or surgery.
For over 100 years individuals have been relying on osteopathy
and the gentle healing treatments in order to remove any obstacles
to healing. Instead of using pharmaceuticals to alter the body's
chemical system, the osteopath has a positive affect on the
biophysical systems of the body in order to improve function.
Individuals who like osteopathic doctors believe in the fact
that a person can prevent, diagnosis, and treat illness, disease
and injury by aiding the body’s own natural inter-relationship
between the bones, organs, nerves and muscles of the body choose to
use osteopathy.
